Insert Locations – Add Locations To Planned And Optimized Routes

Route4Me lets you insert a saved location into a route, carrying its address and details over automatically. You can add a location to a specific route, let Route4Me match it to the route with the least impact on distance and time, or insert it from the Routes Page instead. This works whether the route hasn’t started yet or is already in progress. This guide covers each of these methods, from the Locations Page and the Routes Page.

Add Location To A Planned Route –  Move Location Into A Route

From your Locations page, right-click any location to insert it into a planned route. Then, follow these steps:

1. Select “Insert Location Into Route” from the right-click menu.
2. Use the “Route Name” field to find a route by entering its alias (route name).
3. Click the “Insert” button to add the location to the route as a new destination.

Route4Me’s multiple stop route optimizer will automatically update the route’s destination sequence and directions to include the new location in the most optimal way.

You can also use this same method to add orders to routes that are already in progress. However, new locations can only be added to the part of a started route that hasn’t been completed yet. Stops that have already been visited can’t be changed.

You can either re-optimize the remaining stops so the rest of the route is as efficient as possible, or add the new locations as the last destinations on the route.

Add Location To Best Route – Automatically Match Location To Optimal Route

Quickly find the best route for a location by right-clicking any location,  then following these steps:

1. Select “Insert Into Best Route” from the right-click menu.
2. Use the “Insert Position” field to choose where to place the location in the route sequence.
   You can add locations at the start or end, after the last visited destination on started routes, or let Route4Me calculate the optimal position with minimal time and distance impact.
3. Use the “Scheduled For” date picker to filter routes scheduled by a specific date.
4. Select a route by clicking the Radio Button next to it.
5. Click “Insert” to add the location as a new destination.

The “Insert Location Into Best Route” panel shows scheduled routes and how adding the location changes route distance and duration, displayed in absolute values and percentages to help you choose a route with minimal extra travel time and distance.

You can also use the Routes List to insert a location. Specifically, you can insert it into a route which will be least impacted by its inclusion:

1. Click the Location Icon at the upper-right of the screen to open the Assignable Work panel.
2. Right click the location you wish to add.
3. Select “Insert Location Into Best Route” from the menu.
