Real-Time GPS Tracking – Track Users & Vehicles in Route Editor
With Route4Me, you can build a well-structured and easily-manageable network of users where each member can have a dedicated role within your organization with an adjustable set of permissions. To make sure that your entire routing operation is running according to plan and your drivers don’t deviate from their routes, Route4Me allows you to track each member of your team on the interactive map in near real-time.
Unlike many telematics vendors that promote and define real-time tracking in different ways while their data synchronization times can stretch out to several minutes, Route4Me can capture data from a vehicle or smartphone every second, and display it on the interactive map for your convenience and analysis at the same speed. To accommodate the particular needs of your business or unique business model, Route4Me can capture tracking data from various integrated telematics devices installed on your drivers’ vehicles or from Route4Me’s iOS and Android mobile apps (GPS4Me).
Thus, with Route4Me’s dynamic routing software and near real-time tracking, you can always know where your field employees and drivers are at any given moment, make sure that they are following their routes, make live changes to your routes, avoid unauthorized vehicle use, prevent driver idling, and much more.
To track a particular team member on the interactive map in near real-time, first, open the route that this member is assigned to from the Routes List or the Routes Map.
In the Routes List and the Routes Map, the email address of the member who is assigned to the route that you want to open is displayed in the “User” column, as well as next to the name of this route.
In the Route Editor of the opened route, the email address of the assigned team member is displayed above the Summary Table next to the name of the route. To learn more about Route4Me’s Team Management, visit this page.
In the Route Editor, to display on the interactive map the current location of the member assigned to the opened route, first, click on “Tracking” in the top right corner of the map and then select “Users” from the menu. After that, the current location of the assigned member will be displayed on the map as a truck icon. The truck icon can move across the interactive map in near real-time following the live location of the member. Depending on your telematics service provider, the tracking icon can be customized (learn more).
Click on the tracking icon of the member to see the near real-time speed at which this member is currently traveling. The “Source” field shows the name of the telematics vendor or device that is used for tracking this member and/or the device that is used by this member for navigating the route (i.e., Route4Me’s iOS and Android mobile apps, specific GPS tracking device, etc.).
To view the tracking trail of the assigned member, first, click on “Tracking” in the top right corner of the map → Click on “Route” → Select the time interval of the tracking trail. Once you select the preferred tracking interval, the tracking trail will be displayed on the map as blue driving lines/directions path. Each blue dot on the displayed tracking trail/directions path represents a vehicle refresh point/synchronization point where the signal from the driver’s GPS telematics device or Route4Me’s iOS or Android mobile app was sent to Route4Me.
Tracking of the member assigned to the route starts when this member opens Route4Me’s iOS or Android mobile app on their device and can be checked in near real-time as long as the member doesn’t close the app. Depending on the GPS navigation device the member is using or the telematics tracking device installed on the member’s vehicle, as well as the settings of your particular telematics vendor, you can get different tracking data (different tracking starting point, vehicle position refresh rate, etc.).
You can click on any breadcrumb (blue dot) on the tracking trail to see when the signal from the member’s GPS/telematics/mobile device was sent to Route4Me and the member’s traveling speed at that moment.
