Route4Me’s Telematics Integration with Samsara
Samsara builds sensor systems that combine wireless sensors with remote networking and cloud-based analytics – all in an easy-to-use, software-centric solution. Samsara believes that by making sensors simple to deploy and their data easy to consume, customers will be able to deploy them by the thousands, and in places they’ve never been used before.
Establishing the Telematics Connection with Samsara
To establish the telematics connection, first, you may need to contact Samsara and request enabling your API credentials for your Samsara account. You may also need to request your “GUID” or “Account ID” which will be required when setting up the connection on your Route4Me account.
Once you have your Samsara “API Key” and “Account ID,” log into your Route4Me account and go to “Telematics Gateway” from the navigation menu.
On the “Telematics Gateway” page, click “Add Telematics Connection” in the top left corner of the screen.
First, type the name/alias for the connection into the corresponding field (i.e., the name of the telematics company, etc.).
Then, select “Samsara” in the “Telematics Vendor” drop-down menu.
Next, type/paste your Samsara “API Key” and “Account ID” into the corresponding fields. If you cannot get your “API Key” and “Account ID,” please contact Samsara’s customer support.
Then, define the “Vehicle Position Refresh Rate” in the corresponding field (in seconds).
Finally, check the authorization checkbox at the bottom of the window and click “Save.”
Please allow 10 minutes for initial configuration.
Viewing Your Samsara Vehicles in Your Route4Me Account
After connecting to your Samsara account, the status of your connection is displayed on the “Telematics Gateway” page respectively. Your vehicles are automatically imported and re-synchronized into the corresponding Route4Me account. To access your vehicles list, go to “Vehicles” from the navigation menu.
All imported vehicles are available on the “Vehicles” page of your Route4Me account. You can assign your imported vehicles to routes in two ways: during the route planning process or after the route has been planned.
The data received from Samsara is automatically associated with the corresponding vehicle ID. You can track the vehicle’s activity in the Route Editor or the Routes Map. To bring up the vehicle’s location and its tracking history on the map in the Route Editor, first, click “Tracking,” next hover your mouse cursor over “Route,” and finally, select the timeframe for which you want to show the tracking history.
When the vehicle is on the route, its tracking data is captured by Samsara and sent to Route4Me where it is evaluated and automatically associated with the corresponding vehicle (by vehicle ID). The icon of the vehicle on the route changes to the logo of the corresponding telematics vendor for your convenience (i.e., when you have integrations with different telematics vendors).
NOTE: It may take up to 60 seconds for the vehicle to show up on the map.
