Mandatory Navigation Compliance – Enforced Mobile App Planned Route Navigation
Route4Me’s final mile optimization software enables you to plan the most optimal routes in seconds. To maximize efficiency, it’s important that field team members follow your optimized routes as planned. Our Mandatory Compliant Navigation advanced configuration ensures drivers navigate routes as planned to avoid route deviations and maintain route compliance. By avoiding detours, drivers can stay out of avoidance zones, comply with optimization settings like avoiding left turns, save fuel, and complete routes with maximum efficiency. Furthermore, tracking updates through the Route4Me Mobile Apps or GPS vehicle telematics tracking provide exact tracking data you can monitor in real-time on the Route4Me Web Platform. In this guide, you can learn how to enable Mandatory Navigation for drivers and field team members, and track route compliance in real-time.

Enable Mandatory Navigation – Route Path Compliance Advanced Configuration
You can use the Advanced Configuration Editor to make compliant navigation mandatory. Click the “New Variable” button and enter “DISABLE_EXTERNAL_NAVIGATION” in the “Key” field and “TRUE” in the “Value” field. Then, click the “Save” button. If the “Value” field is empty, the “FALSE” value is used to maintain the software’s default functionality and disables the configuration.
NOTE: The “DISABLE_NAVIGATION_PATH_COMPLIANCE” advanced configuration disconnects the route path on the mobile app from the path on the Web Platform and must be set to “FALSE” to ensure compliance with the route.

Mandatory Navigation – Mobile App Enforced Compliant Navigation With Planned Routes
With the “DISABLE_EXTERNAL_NAVIGATION” Key set to “True” and “DISABLE_NAVIGATION_PATH_COMPLIANCE” set to “False“, mobile driver navigation on the Route4Me Route App works as follows:
- The User assigned to the route can’t select an alternative navigation app such as Waze, Apple Maps, or Goolge Maps and must use Route4Me’s in-app GPS navigation.
- The route path on the mobile app is the same as the optimized route path on the Web Platform and is compliant with all of your optimization settings and route business rules.
These settings ensure your field team members always use mandatory compliant route path navigation. Further in this guide, you can learn about different route planning constraints and business rules that benefit from compliant navigation to give you full control over your final mile route planning and optimization.
Required Compliance Routing – Commercial Routes, Same Side Routing And More
Compliant navigation is essential for certain types of enterprise businesses in 2025, ensuring that drivers and field team members always follow routes according to plan. Depending on your unique needs and routing scenarios, you can plan routes with one or more constraints, business rules, or other settings that require navigation compliance. Below, you can find a few examples of cases where mandatory navigation can enable your business to maximize routing performance.
Commercial Routing – Plan Compliant Truck Routes For Commercial Fleet Vehicles
You can, for example, plan commercial routes that account for vehicle parameters such as weight, height, width, and hazardous material restrictions to make sure your trucks avoid unsuitable or restricted areas. That means the directions of a commercial trucking routes can be substantially different from regular routes planned with the same destination addresses. To ensure successful completion of your trucker routes, you can use mandatory compliant navigation as described in this guide.
Same Side Routing – Plan Routes With Destinations On The Left Or Right
You can also optimize routes with all destinations on one side of the road. This way, field workers don’t have to park opposite a destination and cross over on foot. This helps to significantly improve driver safety and efficiency by minimizing the risks of crossing busy roads, reduce destination Service Time, prevent unsuccessful orders by reducing risk of damage, etc.
For Route4Me’s Same Side Routing feature to be effective, it’s essential to use mandatory compliant navigation to avoid situations where destinations are visited from the wrong side of the road. The same is true when optimizing routes to avoid left turns.
Track Compliance – Route Adherence, Planned And Not Visited, Deviations And Detours Detection
Additionally, Route4Me’s dispatch tracking software enables you to track navigation compliance of drivers on routes by tracking deviations and detours. This way, you can ensure your field team members stay out of avoidance zones, comply with optimization settings like avoiding left turns, save fuel, and complete routes with maximum efficiency.
