Return To Sender – Scan Label Codes To Process Orders For Return To Sender
Route4Me’s ERP Order Management and Routing System enables medium and large last mile businesses to automatically import orders from CRMs and other systems, sort, process, route, and complete millions of orders effortlessly. Sometimes, incorrect or damaged orders may arrive at your Facilities and need to be returned to their sender or point of origin. With Route4Me’s Android and iPhone Routing App, Sorters and team members with other user types can seamlessly process these orders by scanning barcodes. In this guide, you can learn how to use the in-app barcode scanner or a connected Bluetooth code scanner to scan labels on orders that need to be returned to their point of origin and assign the “Return to Sender” order status.

Enable Return To Sender Order Scanning On Your Route4Me Account
To enable the return order feature on your Enterprise Order Routing Software account, contact your Routing Expert or the Route4Me Support Team. When Return to Sender is enabled on your account, users with the corresponding permissions can use the in-app barcode scanner or a connected Bluetooth label scanner to assign the “Return to Sender” status to orders. Return Order Scanning Permissions – Enable Order Return Scanning For Sorters And Other User Types
When the Return to Sender feature for scanning labels and barcodes to mark return orders is enabled on your Route4Me account, you can adjust the associated User Permissions settings when you create a new user or edit an existing user. Additionally, if Grab & Go order routing is also enabled on your account, you can adjust the corresponding user permissions on the same page. To do so, go to “Team” and “Users” from the Navigation Menu and follow the steps below:
- Click the “Create Users” button to create a new user profile or click the Three-dot Icon next to an existing and select “Edit” from the menu to adjust settings for that user.
- Click “Permissions” to adjust user permissions.
- Click the Toggle Button labeled ‘Enable “Return to sender” scanner‘.
- Click the “Save” button at the bottom of the page to save your new user permissions.
Then, the user will be able to open the return scanner on the mobile app when signed in with their Route4Me account. Additionally, you can enable order return scanning for Sorters, Drivers, and any other user type on your last mile routing team.
Scan Return Orders – Use In-App Barcode Scanner To Mark Return To Sender Orders
To process return orders and assign the “Return to Sender” status, sign in to your Route4Me account on the Android Order Route Planner or iPhone Order Routing app. Then, simply tap “Return to Sender” in the App Navigation Menu, and the app will open the order label scanner. When you scan an order label, the app will automatically open the associated order information, allowing you to confirm the details of the order. Next, tap the “Return to Sender” button to assign the corresponding Order Status.
You can continuously scan multiple order barcodes without closing the barcode scanner. After confirming a Return to Sender order, the app will automatically open the barcode scanner again, and a new order can be scanned right away.
When a Sorter or other member of your team scans an order and marks it as “Return to Sender“, the status of that order will be updated in real time. Route4Me seamlessly synchronizes all order status updates with your account, regardless of when and from where they are made. To view specific orders on the Web Platform, go to “Orders” from the Navigation Menu and input the preferred order’s label code or other relevant information in the Search Field.
Filter Return Orders – Use Orders Page Filters To Find Return To Sender Orders
You can filter orders in your Route4Me Orders List by virtually any order parameter and attribute. For example, order address, scheduled date, customer name or email, label code, etc. Primarily, you can filter orders by their “Scheduled For Date” and Order Status. For your convenience, you can use Orders List View Modes that group order statuses by their purpose and application.
To view your Return to Sender orders, select the “All Orders” View Mode. Then, go to “Filters” and “Order Status” and make sure the “Select All” box is checked. This way, all orders, including Return to Sender orders, will be shown on your Orders List, where you can plan routes with orders, manage orders, and more.
