Walking Travel Mode Optimization – Android Route Planner App

Route4Me’s Android Route Planner is designed to make your routing operations and transactions as fast and flexible as possible, allowing you to plan, optimize, and navigate routes of any complexity on the go. Last-mile routing often requires alternative types of route optimization. For example, courier services, door to door sales, food or parcel delivery, and many other last-mile businesses need to optimize their routes not only for Driving but also for Walking. Even though Walking may not be suitable for long distances and heavy cargo, completing last-mile deliveries and visits on foot in the cities with a high density of customers, busy traffic, and expensive parking can have more advantages than Driving. To help you win the last mile, Route4Me’s Android Route Planner allows you to plan and optimize the most optimal routes with the most efficient turn-by-turn and navigation Walking directions.

To plan and optimize a new route with Walking directions, first, go to “My Routes” from the navigation menu and then tap on the “Add Route” button at the bottom of the screen. Next, select “Walking” in the “Travel Mode” section.

After that, specify the rest of the route’s settings and then tap on the checkmark icon in the top right corner of the screen to apply the changes. To do so, tap on the “Add Destination” button and then import or add the route departure address using the preferred method.

After adding the departure address, you can start adding or importing the addresses that you want to use for planning and optimizing the Walking route. To import addresses from your Android smartphone or tablet, Google Drive, or Dropbox in CSV or XLS format, first, go to the “Import” tab and then select the preferred import option accordingly. When optimizing routes for Walking, Route4Me’s Android Route Planner takes into account all predefined route settings, computes through millions of routing scenarios, and generates the most efficient route that includes the most optimal Walking turn-by-turn and navigation directions.

Re-Optimizing Driving Routes into Walking Routes

Since Walking routing requires traveling on the roads that are different from the roads for Driving, those routes that are optimized for Driving will always have different navigation directions, distance, ETAs, and other parameters than the routes that are optimized for Walking. To re-optimize a Driving route into a Walking route using your Route4Me Android Route Planner, first, tap on the gear icon in the top right corner of the opened route, select “Walking” in the “Travel Mode” section and then go back to the opened route.

Once the route is re-optimized from Driving to Walking, this route’s traveling distance, ETAs, total travel time, navigation directions, and other parameters will change accordingly. Routes that are optimized for Walking are different from the Driving routes because both Travel Modes use different real-world road networks with different restrictions and rules.
