Round Trip Route Optimization – Android Route Planner App
Route4Me’s Android Route Planner is designed to make your routing operations and transactions as fast and flexible as possible, allowing you to plan, optimize, and navigate routes of any complexity on the go. To make your routing activities more efficient and productive, Route4Me’s Android app provides multiple options for optimizing your routes. The Round Trip optimization type allows you to plan and optimize routes that start and end at the same address (depot, warehouse, etc.). You can define any preferred custom depot from where the route will start, then all addresses on the route will be visited in the most cost-effective and time-efficient sequence, and finally, once the last address is visited, the route will end at the same depot where it began. Moreover, to make sure that you always complete all your routes on time and leave your customers more satisfied, Route4Me’s Android Route Planner provides the most optimal turn-by-turn driving and navigation directions for your Round Trip routes.

To plan a new route with the Round Trip optimization type, first, go to “My Routes” from the navigation menu and then tap on the “Add Route” button at the bottom of the screen. Next, select the “Round Trip” optimization type and then fill out the rest of the route’s settings to your preference (learn more).
After specifying the route’s settings, you need to set up the departure address from which the route will start and at which the route will end. To do so, tap on the “Add Destination” button and then add the departure address using the preferred method.
After adding the departure address, you need to add or import the addresses that you want to use for planning and optimizing the new route. To import addresses from your device, Google Drive, or Dropbox in CSV or XLS format, first, go to the “Import” tab and then select the preferred import option accordingly. To learn more about adding addresses manually, visit this page. Once you added the addresses that you want to include into the route, tap on the “Optimize” button to plan and optimize the route.
Once the Roundtrip route is planned and optimized, this route will start and end at the same predefined depot, and all added or imported addresses within the route will be placed in the most efficient sequence.
Comparing Alternative Optimization Types (Round Trip vs. End Anywhere)
The Round Trip optimization type allows you to define a single depot from which the route starts and at which the route ends and get the most efficient sequence of destinations within this route. Alternatively, the End Anywhere optimization type allows you to optimize routes with the predefined departure address, the most efficient sequence of stops, and the most optimal route end address that is automatically selected by the app. To plan a route with the End Anywhere optimization type, select the End Anywhere optimization type when specifying the route’s settings.
Once the route is planned, this route will start from the predefined departure destination, have the most efficient sequence of addresses, and end at the most optimal address.
When planning Round Trip routes with the same single predefined start and end address, you will get different results from when you are optimizing routes using the End Anywhere optimization type that allows Route4Me’s Android Route Planner to determine the most optimal end destination automatically. Depending on the specific requirements of your business activities, you may need to plan routes that end at different stops or routes that start and end at the same address. With Route4Me’s Android Route Planner, you can set up a custom departure depot from where the route will start, then all the stops on the route will be visited in the most efficient and cost-effective sequence, and finally, the route will end at the same depot where it originally started.
